General information. Albany is the Capital of New York State. There is a heavy volume of traffic into and out of the city during regular business hours, especially when the State Legislature is in session. The New York State Thruway also runs thorough a section of southern Albany.  Albany is the home of the University of Albany, State University of New York, Albany Law School, Albany Pharmacy College, and Maria College.
